BOOK SPOTLIGHT

Secrets and Sins:Raphael
by Naima Simone
Release Date: 4/28/14
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Some sins have dangerous consequences...

When Greer Addison finds her future husband in bed with another woman, she runs…right into the arms of dark and dangerous Raphael Marcel. Angry and hurt, she throws caution to the wind and spends a hot night with the sexy security specialist. But when her fiancĂ© is found dead, Greer becomes the main suspect of a crime she can’t remember.

Raphael is stunned and suspicious when Greer shows up on his doorstep claiming she’s carrying his baby. Worse, she’s the target of a stalker bent on making her pay for a murder she doesn’t recall. As Raphael begins to trust Greer, they must race against the clock to uncover a killer. Because Greer’s memory is returning...

Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey and Linda Howard many years ago. Though her first attempt at writing a romance novel at age 11 never saw the light of day, her love of romance and writing has endured. Now, she spends her time creating stories of unique men and women who experience the dizzying heights of passion and the tender heat of love.
She is wife to Superman—or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent—and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

Hard to Hold by Incy Black

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

BOOK SPOTLIGHT

By Incy Black
Release Date: 4/28
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Love hurts
Anna Key Marshall is about to get what she’s always wanted: a baby. Granted, it’s through a sperm donor instead of her ex-husband, but you can’t have everything. She has no idea why someone wants her dead, but she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her unborn child—even if it means turning to her ex, the Black Ops specialist who broke her heart.
Five years ago, British Intelligence agent Nick Marshall slammed the door on the woman who betrayed him. But now Anna’s back in his life with a vengeance, pregnant and full of attitude. He’d like nothing better than to walk away, but with her life on the line, he has no choice but to do what he does best—protect her at all costs.
As old wounds resurface, Nick begins to doubt his version of what went down with Anna so long ago. And he begins to believe they might have a second chance together. But with Anna’s would-be killer on the loose—it will take the full force and fury of his protective instincts, fueled by a powerful love he can’t leave behind, to hold on to the woman he still loves.

Incy Black...It took a swan dive from a roof to convince Incy (aged 5) she wasn’t an avenging fairy and that no, she most certainly couldn’t fly.  Bruised but undefeated she retreated deeper into her make-believe world populated with the brave and the poisonous.
When not fighting injustice and righting wrongs on ‘Planet Incy’, she works as a Marketing Director. (Unfortunately, her law degree languishes unused, the distinction between good and evil proving too worrisome in real life.)
Her five children are well versed in what scares her (most things) and delight in pushing her neurotic buttons—at their peril.

I won this one and can't wait to read it!

Catherine has spent her life being the perfect princess. She’s kept her hands clean, her head down, and most importantly—men at arm’s length. After all, most men are after only one thing, and for Cathy there’s a lot more at stake than her bed; she has to worry about the fate of an entire nation. But at the rate she’s going, Cathy is afraid she’ll give the Virgin Queen a run for her money. She is tired of waiting for someone good enough to come along. She has a plan, and it all hinges on seducing the one man who seems utterly unimpressed by all things royal. The one man she is tempted by more than any other . . .

When David arrives at the royal wedding of his friend, the newly ordained Duchess Samantha Rousseau, he expected to feel uncomfortable and out of his element, but he wasn’t prepared to be targeted by Prince Alex’s gorgeous younger sister. With Cathy’s giant blue eyes, killer figure, and sense of humor, it won’t take long before he gives in. But when he finds out just how innocent the crown princess really is, will he play the part of knight in shining armor or the dashing rogue?

~!~!~!~!~!~

And my week wasn't over.

PROTECTION

So, what good books are you reading this week?
If you'd like to share a review, I'd love to host you here.

Happy Birthday, Amber L. Johnson

It's Amber's birthday, but you can get a GIFT!

I loved this book. Here's my post and review:

BEATLESS
by Amber L. Johnson

Mallory Durham has been left behind and it is making her feel less like an adult and more like an afterthought.

Divorce, sickness, educational aspirations being shattered, and her Aunt Sam moving into her home, have made Mal's life nearly unrecognizable to her.

When Tucker Scott re-enters her life along with his band, will they offer what she needs to once again find her voice and self confidence or will it strip her of it even more?

Told through the dual voices of Mallory as she navigates her new world, and Aunt Sam's letters to her niece, Beatless tells the story of two women at very different points in their life, fighting the same battles; proving that no matter what age a person is, there are always lessons to be learned.

Kathie's Review:

I had the honor of helping edit BEATLESS. I had to keep stopping and remembering that I was working...as I just kept reading as fast as I could. This journey tugged at my heart, had me reaching for tissues, and had me ranting in emails "OH GOSH, what's going to HAPPEN NEXT?" and I have to admit to loving every second.

Amber pulls me right into her characters' lives. I feel like I know them and when the book was over, I missed them. One of the great things about books is that we can revisit them often, and I can assure you that I plan to read about Mal, Tucker, and Sam again and again. Because that's the kind of book this is.

With a child who has taken drama for the last several years, Mal's adventure via the play read right. Now I hope that my drama student can find a Tucker for herself. I appreciated that this wasn't a high school scene, those have been done too many times. It was great to read about young people figuring LIFE out.

The letters from Sam were full of good advice. Mal needed her to point out some life lessons and I'm glad we got to read about them right along with her.

This is a book that's going on my BEST BOOKS EVER shelf. And I hope you enjoy it, too.

Excerpt

The Scott house was less than five miles from mine, but it could have been in a completely different world. The neighborhood was older, clearly didn’t have a Homeowners Association, and the houses themselves looked like they were in dire need of repair. His was a brown ranch that had an exposed basement, which I quickly learned was where he had all his musical instruments set up. It was a sweet deal because he’d soundproofed the room with egg crates, the whole back wall was filled with band posters, and there were a few guitars mounted to the studs above his keyboard.
He seated himself in front of it, turning on the power and shuffling the sheet music that had accumulated there. “What’s your vocal register?”
“I don’t have one anymore, remember?”
“We can change that.” Light notes plinked out from beneath his fingertips and he swiveled in his seat to regard me carefully. “I know you’ve got it in you. You have to believe it too or it won’t work.”
“I don’t want to sing in front of you.” The thought alone was making me want to vomit. What if I was as terrible as I imagined? I’d only been singing along to the radio in my room, but it was breathy and sparse, and honestly, it hurt a little if I went too high.
His eyes softened and he patted the seat next to him. “Then sing with me.”

Dream Cast:

Amber L. Johnson is a full time mom, full time wife, is employed full time, and writes when she can. She believes in Happily Ever Afters that occur every day - despite the obstacles that real life serves up on a regular basis. Or perhaps they're sweeter simply because of them. She always has 2 rubber bands on her wrist, a song in her head, and too much creamer in her coffee cup that reads 'Cocoa' - because she's a rebel. If she's not at her desk, with her boys, or behind the computer, she's supporting live music with her arms raised above her head and eyes closed, waiting for the drop.

Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom by Vanessa Kelly

Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom

by Vanessa Kelly
April 1, 2014

Only one woman is worthy of his secrets…

They are the Renegade Royals, illegitimate sons of the Royal Princes, each finding his rightful place in society—and the woman destined to be his perfect match…

Some men are born into scandal. Others pursue it with a passion. Griffin Steele, secret son of the Duke of Cumberland, is guilty on both counts. Yet somehow London’s most notorious scoundrel has been saddled with an abandoned baby boy—and with the unflappable, intriguing spinster summoned to nurse him…

Justine Brightmore may be a viscount’s niece, but she’s also a spy’s daughter, determined to safeguard the infant when his suspected royal parentage makes him a target. Yet how to protect herself from the rakish Griffin? Marriage might shield her reputation, but it can only imperil her heart, especially with a groom intent on delicious seduction…

First, I love that cover! So elegant. The story was fun, too. Griffin is really trying to step away from the brothel that he owns. He's slowly becoming legitimate. Well, as much as he can be as the unacknowledged son of a prince. He's so close to being free. Then a baby is dumped on his doorstep. Next door to the brothel.

His mentor and friend, mostly, Sir Dominic Hunter brings his goddaughter to care for the infant. I say he's mostly a friend because he really wants what's best for Griffin, much to Griffin's dismay. There may have been the slightest bit of match-making from this Master Spy. But even he has some qualms when Griffin proposes to save Justine's reputation. Now the scene that brought this on was FUN! Justine is pretty good with a gun! Yes, fun, indeed!

There's a bit of a mystery here. Just who is this baby? Why is someone wanting to harm him? Who brought him to a brothel for safe keeping? Lots of questions, and we do get answers.

I did laugh a couple times. And I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It's nice that there are several out in the series already, and more to come.

*Thank you, NetGalley and Kensington, for the opportunity to read this book.

Jessica Lee...Almost every author's bio states they've been writing since they learned how to read. It's what they've always wanted to do. Well, my journey wasn't so straight and narrow. I was a nurse for over twenty years and hold a bachelor's degree in science with a major in biology. So as you can see, my career path had originally gone in the opposite direction. I didn't discover my passion for the craft until after I'd had my son and decided to work part-time.

I've always loved to read but had never read a paranormal romance. Then one night at work on break, I began reading Karen Marie Moning's Spell of the Highlander. I couldn't believe what I'd been missing, and I immediately fell in love with the genre.

I wanted to write like that. I wanted to create worlds where others could find the same escape and fascination I did when I read my first sensual paranormal romance.

And I hope that's what I've accomplished in my work. Please dive in, hold on tight, and enjoy the adventure. Just be careful in the dark—you might find more than you expected waiting for you there.
Jessica Lee lives in the southeastern United States with her husband and son. She loves writing and can't wait for that quiet time each day when her son is in school, and she can get lost in another place and world with the fantastical, sexy creatures in her head.

She’s a member of Romance Writers of America, FF&P, and Carolina Romance Writers.

The Sarantos Baby Bargain
Olivia Gates
He'd come for the baby…and his ex-wife.

Naomi Sinclair had once fallen hard for Andreas Sarantos. Marrying the irresistible Greek venture capitalist had seared her soul with pleasure—and despair. For she soon discovered he was incapable of love. Now her ex-husband is back…to claim her orphaned ten-month-old niece.

Andreas let Naomi get away once. But adopting his best friend's baby girl gives him the leverage he needs to bring his unwilling ex-wife back to his bed. Will having the only woman he's ever wanted erase the scars of his dark past? Or will he lose Naomi, this time forever?

Olivia Gates has been a singer, a painter, a women's accessories designer, a wife, a mother — oh, and a doctor, too. She's still all that, even if singing, painting and designing have taken a back seat, while her wife, mother and doctor sides have been pushed to the forefront.
She can see you wondering — uhh, what about writing?
Yes, she's always written, too, admittedly more off than on as she ran around being all of the above. Somehow, she never thought a writing career was an option.
Then with the purchase of her first computer in 2001 (yeah, a bit behind, but she prefers to refer to it as her "millennium upgrade!") and her introduction to cyberspace, she found eHarlequin.com and discovered that the publisher whose books she'd grown up devouring accepted un-agented manuscripts from first-time writers.
A determined spree of submissions (95% of them clueless until she actually learned the real hard business of writing!) and two years later, she sold her first book, Doctors on the Frontline to Harlequin Medical Romance. The day she received a face-to-face call from her editor in her first ever writing conference among her writing friends and idols, the only ones who really understand what this achievement means, retains the place of honor in her life as its most exciting day!
Since July 2003, it's been a roller-coaster ride of activity and productivity, since she's now a full-time doctor and author. (DON'T ask!)
She's written several more books for the Medical line, and also for the Bombshell series, Silhouette's hot, heroine-oriented, action-adventure line!
The funny (and weird) part is that until Olivia had written the book that sold, she'd never thought of writing medical-oriented books. Now all her books have daring, dedicated medical heroes and heroines scorching up the pages in unrelenting, against-all-odds adventures, helping people in need while struggling with the turmoil of their own lives and overriding passions.
Olivia Gates lives with her alpha husband, lovely daughter and their white Angora cat. Her husband is her adviser and, with her incredible mother, her staunchest supporter. Her daughter gives her plot ideas, and they're all along the lines of a doctor trying to reach his patients on a hot rainbow barefoot. With an imagination like that, Olivia's encouraging her to write her own books. Olivia's cat curls up on her lap, cramping her and critically watching the story unfold on the screen, then tries to edit the manuscript to his liking by walking all over the keyboard.

Lynn Raye Harris

This sheikh plays to win!

The crown of Kyr holds no appeal for pleasure-seeking sheikh Kadir al-Hassan—his memories of the kingdom are as dark as a desert's night. But neither will he shirk his duty…. Instead, Kadir returns home with a bride so unsuitable, no one will want him to be king!

Long-suffering assistant Emily Bryant is the most important person in Kadir's high-octane life, and the most invisible—until she's promoted to royal bride! Sealing their marriage bargain with a scorching kiss leaves Kadir craving more….

Now Kadir must decide what's really at stake in his royal game—his desert duty, or Emily!

USA Today bestselling author Lynn Raye Harris burst onto the scene when she won a writing contest held by Harlequin. A former finalist for the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart Award and the National Readers Choice Award, Lynn lives in Alabama with her handsome former military husband and two crazy cats. Lynn writes about hot military heroes, sizzling international billionaires, and the women who dare to tame them. Her books have been called “exceptional and emotional,” “intense,” and “sizzling.”
Ten Random Things About Lynn You Might Find Cool:
1. I’m a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This makes my husband a HODAR (Husband of DAR), which I find hilarious.
2. I used to ride show jumpers when I was a teenager. Other teens were going out with their friends while I was riding horses every evening after school.
3. I’ll try any kind of food once, unless it’s really weird (like scorpion-on-a-stick). I have eclectic tastes and I believe life is an adventure! Why not try the food, right?
4. I got married in Germany and I have two anniversaries. The first is the civil ceremony, performed by the Burger Meister, and the second is the church wedding, which was the next day.
5. I used to live in Hawaii. This was every bit as cool as it sounds.
6. Though I lived in Hawaii, I am not a water sport kind of person. I do not surf. I do not snorkel. I do not like sticking my toes in an ocean in which sharks also swim. I did it on occasion, but it’s not my favorite thing to do. I’d rather look at the water from the beach.
7. Flying used to terrify me, and now I like it. Except for the long lines and security and all that stuff, of course.
8. I’m an introvert, which is pretty typical for a writer. I love going to events and meeting readers, but I’m kinda scared too. What if you don’t like me?
9. I don’t eat dessert very often. I’m just not a sweets kind of person. I’d rather have the savory than the sweet. Chocolate is good, and I like it, but I don’t have to have it.
10. I will read just about everything. Except horror. It scares me.

Lucy Monroe

When the Sheikh comes to town…

Sheikh Sayed of Zeena Sarha and his harem of beautiful women are staying at the exclusive, opulent Chatsfield Hotel, London, for the last stop on his worldwide tour before his wedding. But when his engagement is unceremoniously broken, Sayed sets his sights on his sexy chambermaid!

Liyah Amari only took the position as chambermaid to find the truth about her birth father. But her search ends in heartache, leaving Liyah vulnerable to this powerful sheikh's desires. Now their one night of passion could result in a scandalous consequence for the proud Sheikh!

Welcome to The Chatsfield, London!

USA Today bestseller and award winning Lucy Monroe’s love affair with books and reading began at age 4. She often climbed her mother’s book stacks to pull down the novels on the top shelves. When she was caught reading the Reader’s Digest Condensed Version of “The Godfather” while still in Kindergarten, those books got moved. Although she’s always loved mysteries and suspense, romance has been her passion since she kyped her first Presents from her oldest sister’s bedside table (again way too early).
She began writing after a conversation with God in the bathtub; as a homeschooling mom until her children were in middle school, the only place she could find any peace for many years was the bathtub. Her path to publication was not strewn with rose petals or even pavement!
Lucy wrote more than one million words of romantic fiction before selling her 13th manuscript to Harlequin Presents, nine years on from that fateful bathtub conversation.
Since then, Lucy has hit national bestsellers lists in England and the U.S.. She’s sold more than 70 books to five publishers and has written three successful ongoing author led series. Her highly charged, sensual stories touch on the realities of life while giving the reader a fantasy story not easily forgotten. Whether it’s a passionate Harlequin Presents, a sexy romantic suspense for Kensington Brava or a steamy historical-paranormal for Berkley Sensation, Lucy’s books transport her readers to a special place where the heart rules and love conquers all.
Lucy has recently signed a three book deal with Grand Central, launching a brand new contemporary stand-alone romance series called the Cailkirn Chronicles. Set to publish in Spring 2015 back-to-back (April, May and June) the series takes place in Cailkirn, a small Alaskan town where the temperature might be cold, but the men are hot!
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have the chance to work with Lucy! I’ve long been a fan of hers and I’m excited to partner with her on this new and exciting chapter in her career. The Cailkirn Chronicles features stories full of the passion, hope, and heart that is so uniquely Lucy. I know readers are going to be as taken with Cailkirn and its residents as I am--get ready, Lucy Monroe fans, we’re off to Alaska!” - Lauren Plude, Editor Grand Central Publishing
Known for her emotional depth, snappy dialogue, solid plotting and dry wit, Monroe’s stories have found their way into readers’ hearts and their keeper shelves. Which is exactly where she most wants to be. An author who writes so she can touch readers’ hearts, she’s never happier than when hearing from readers when she’s done so.
Lucy finds awards affirming, best sellers lists a great blessing, but it’s the interaction with readers via email, her social pages and at reader-centric events that reminds her time and again why she writes and why, for her, she always will.
