"Kemmerer will melt your heart and blow your mind." --#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout

One misstep and they lose it all. For the last time.

Michael Merrick is used to pressure.

He's the only parent his three brothers have had for years. His power to control Earth could kill someone if he miscalculates. Now an Elemental Guide has it out for his family, and he's all that stands in the way.

His girlfriend, Hannah, gets that. She's got a kid of her own, and a job as a firefighter that could end her life without a moment's notice.

But there are people who have had enough of Michael's defiance, his family's "bad luck." Before he knows it, Michael's enemies have turned into the Merricks' enemies, and they're armed for war.

They're not interested in surrender. But Michael isn't the white flag type anyway. There will be blood on the ground tonight. . .

Kathie's Review:

I haven't read the first books in the Elemental Series by Brigid Kemmerer. I was nearly caught up without a huge info dump, and I appreciate that. I would have liked to have seen a bit more info than we were given, but it was still okay. Sacrifice is #8 in the series. Have to say, I love this cover. That face really does make me think about Michael, the hero in this book.

We start the book with something in the woods. Michael can't sleep as he worries about what is coming for his family. It is the Guides? Is it Calla, the girl who has been pushing for a war between the Guides and the Elementals? Is it something else? Hunter and his dog join him as he waits. Suddenly they are aware that there is something, someone, in the woods and they run after it/him.

The action continues from there on throughout the book. It's like one huge roller coaster. Just when Michael the and boys can take a breath, something else is thrown at them. Seriously, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Minor spoiler: Sacrifice...the title should give a clue as to what will happen. And this author has killed characters previously. Something to consider as you read. I'm reminded of the Star Trek line: The good of the many outweighs the good of the one. It was a hard moment, for sure.

A minor pet peeve for me is when a character asks a question in dialog, the dialog tag should read asked. Not said. And that happened several times in this book. I'm hoping that the final editor caught that as I was reading an advanced copy. An example not from the book: "Where will we go?" said character.

I had thought from reading the blurb that this was the last in the series, but it's not. There are still too many ends to tie up, and bad guys to outwit. There are also new allies and friends to be found and their stories told. I will certainly be watching for a new book from this author.

Thank you, NetGalley and Kensington, for the opportunity to read Sacrifice
