Caught Inside by S. Briones Lim

by S. Briones Lim
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: 12/30/14

Even Riley Dillon’s lucky red shoes couldn’t save her from the worst day imaginable—though they did act as great projectile against her cheating fiancé!

After finding her life in turmoil, Riley leaves New York and returns to her hometown of Mistcoast, California where she takes a job at the local surf shop owned by Blake Reynolds, who has certainly grown up a lot since high school.

Blake Reynolds is handsome, talented and driven. At twenty-four the blond haired, blue eyed surfer seemingly has it all: a booming business, hometown following—everything but the girl of his dreams. Luckily, fate decides to give him a second chance.

After ten years apart will Blake finally win Riley’s heart? Or will she continue to see him as the annoying freshman she used to tutor?

One thing’s for sure, only the California sun and surf can help decide.

Thanks to her Mom’s unwavering devotion to read a childhood bedtime story to her every single night, S. BRIONES LIM’s love for books began before she could even speak.
Raised in Southern California, Lim initially dreamt of becoming an artist. After a Psychology Degree (Summa cum Laude), a stint in Art School, and a career in Advertising/Media she is finally diving back into her first love – books. As a self-renowned bookworm, Lim’s love for reading has inspired her to pen her own novels and hopes her readers will fall in love with her stories as much as she enjoys writing them.
Her obsessions include time with family, Cherry Coke, popcorn with jalapeños, watching movies and her dogs, Tobi and Roscoe. She currently lives in Virginia with her husband.

“Enough of me,” he said coyly. He reached out to grab a stray lock of my strawberry blonde hair. I swatted his hand away.

“Do not touch me,” I hissed.

He rolled his eyes and turned his baseball cap backwards on his head. “Oh, come on. I’m a guy and you’re a girl and—”

“This isn’t going to turn into some tutor/student sex fantasy,” I shot back angrily.

“Admit it. You think I’m hot.”

If I were being frank, I would admit that the fourteen-year-old freshman was good looking in a young Brad Pitt sort of way. Regardless, he was a freshman. There was no way I was even entertaining that idea.

I shook my head. “Nope. Can’t say that I do.”

“Oh, come on, Riley. Stop denying what is fated. We are going to fall in love, get married, and have beautiful children.”

“Do you want me to tell your mother that you’re sexually harassing your eighteen year old senior tutor? Why don’t you take all that energy you’re putting into being a perverted freak and focus on your studies?”

Instead of being angry, Blake’s eyes widened and he burst into a loud laugh. “You are seriously something, Riley Dillon. Seriously something.”

“Just pay attention to the lesson,” I snapped.

“Age ain’t nothing but a number, Sweetheart. One day you’ll find that out.” He grinned his cocky smile and I couldn’t help but wonder if this tutoring gig was even worth it. As his laugh echoed in the empty classroom, all I could do was shut my tired eyes and shake my head in exasperation.

“If you want hot, sexy, dangerous romance…this series is for you.” —Paranormal Haven
Janie Kayrs has known Zane almost her whole life. He was her friend in the dream world. She trusted him. But that was before he kidnapped her, spiriting her away to an isolated cabin to learn what her dreams never told her. Like how dangerous he looks. How he got on the wrong side of the negotiating table. And how much sexier he is in real life…
Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he’s worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice…
Love is about to start conquering…

Kathie's Review:

This is the last book in the Dark Protectors' Series by Ms. Zanetti. I could hardly wait to read Janie and Zane's story. We've been seeing bits and pieces of it throughout the series and this book is the climax the arc. And what a climax it was! We got to see all the characters from the previous books. Everyone had a role to fill, and they did it marvelously.

While I had my guess about who, and what, Zane would be, Ms. Zanetti kept the twists and turns coming. This was one continuous adventure. I am very impressed how she tied things up. I was left feeling satisfied, especially with all the little insights into our favorite couples the epilogue gave us. And then she gave us a hint for maybe another book later on! Ah, good times.

There was humor, pages of intensity, moments of joy, paragraphs of fear...and it was all twisted up in a wonderful reading package. I read it in one sitting. Yes, it was that good. We have all been waiting for the culmination of the story, and it was worth the wait.

But then she was mean. After the end of Marked, she gives us a teaser for her next series, The Realm Enforcers. I need it NOW!

I highly recommend this book. In fact, you really can't go wrong with any of her series. Yes, she's that good.

*Thank you, Netgalley and Kensington, for the opportunity to read Marked.

Happy Release Day!!!

Dragon Her Back

Las Vegas Dragons #3

December 15, 2014
A paranormal category romance from Entangled's Covet imprint…

How To Claim Your Dragon...

As the head of security of Vegas's Crown Jewel casino―and its hidden dragonshifter sanctuary―ice dragon Darius Dachien commands respect. Unfortunately, that respect isn't always reciprocated. In fact, when it comes to the stunning Mei Chen, hostility might be a better word. Which makes things even harder for Darius, since Mei is his dragon mate. Without her, his dragon form is fading fast... and once lost, will be gone forever.

Mei can't deny the fierce chemistry that simmers between them. If Darius were ever to discover who―or rather, what―she really is, she wouldn't just lose him, but her place with the dragonshifters. The moment Mei's past comes crashing into her present, she realizes her time for secrets has ended. Now she must reveal her true self... and risk both her life and her heart with the one man who could destroy her.
Kathie's Review:

I've been looking forward to this one since I read Stop Dragon My Heart Around. We met Darius and Mei then, and I knew there were going to be some fireworks. SHE really does not want to give into the bond they have forming between them. She has some major issues in the way of a really bad past and she doesn't want to drag Darius into it.

For his part, Darius' dragon is waning. They've found their mate, Mei, but if she won't accept the bond, his dragon is toast.

Unlike a couple dragon shifter books I've read recently, we get to spend quite a bit of time with these dragons as they've shifted. We are with them as they fly, as they drool over their gems (Mei's got hers locked in a cage at the bottom of a lake), and as they fight. I loved that about this series.

I was a bit confused when Mei nearly attacks this chippy that smelled of Darius. We know he used her to try and make Mei jealous, but that was ages ago...why would she still smell like him? Especially since they didn't actually do anything.

I loved how they wanted to protect each other, once they've given in to the fact they DO belong together. They have quite a few obstacles to overcome, though.

All in all, a lot of fun and I can only want more in this series.

Thank you, Ms. Scott and Entangled, for the opportunity to read this book.

He stared hard, communicating his displeasure with a lift of his dark brows. “What can I do for you?” His question was gruff, and she sensed his dragon, barely leashed under his human skin.

Mei sat across from him in a black chair without invitation. A gray tie coiled in a perfect circle on his desk, the edges perfectly aligned. She stared at the weave and symmetry of the fabric rather than the overwhelming feeling of being ensconced with him.

“I’ve never been in here.”

He frowned and open-palmed his hands toward the ceiling. “You want a tour?” His voice was sarcastic, and he dropped his palms to his flat stomach, drawing her eyes. She knew what he looked like under the business suit. The images of him naked, strong, in their bed in Paris cascaded in rapid succession, making it hard to breathe. The scent of him, the heat of him surrounded her and she looked at the tie as if it was a lifeline to sanity.

Silence stretched, becoming loud and distorted with numbing white noise, making him too close and too far at the same time. She raised her eyes to his, seeing him staring, waiting for her to speak.

The fax. She had to get answers on Bo Quan. “You’re angry with me.”

“I’m frustrated with you. There’s a difference. It’ll be six years in—”

“I know.” Immediately, the images she’d pushed aside crowded back in her mind and a tight ball of longing, edged out her current fear. He was supposed to have been a fling for her, an escape anthem, a declaration of independence. Then she’d woken to find his binding dragon mark on her hand and all her hopes for a new life had disappeared.

Breeder by K.B. Hoyle

Happy Release Day!

By K.B. Hoyle
Release Date: December 11 , 2014
Genre: Fiction: Dystopian
ISBN e-book:   978-1-61213-292-1
Available from: Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and TWCS PH

Everything about Seventeen’s life is perfect, from her genetics, to her home in Sanctuary, to her status as a Breeder in the Unified World Order. But all that changes when she meets a rogue Enforcer named Pax, who infiltrates Sanctuary and targets her for extraction from the Controlled Repopulation Program. Pax seems to know a little too much about her, and he plants dangerous doubts in her mind that accuse Sanctuary of hiding a dark secret, and that cause Seventeen to question everything she’s ever known.

When Seventeen’s life is threatened, she has little choice but to run away from Sanctuary with Pax. But for Breeders, contact with men is forbidden by law, and even the simple act of taking Pax’s hand is treason.

Mired in confusion, Seventeen travels with Pax to the outside world and takes the name Pria, the identity of her childhood. But she is far from certain she’s made the right decision when they discover an entire community of people who should no longer exist.

Seventeen, now Pria, is thrust into a position as a key player in a dangerous bid to bring down the Unified World Order. Meanwhile, Pax’s attachment to her and her growing attraction to him contribute to the ever-growing mysteries in her life.

Pria’s journey from a sheltered, naïve Breeder to a rebel agent requires not only external transformation but self-discovery. As her world crumbles, Pria must decide who she is and what she really believes.

But the truth comes at a cost, and uncovering it will require a greater treason than she could ever have imagined.

Kathie's Review:

Wow, this one was intense. From the first moment we realize what Seventeen has lost, to her escape with a man who might be just using her, to her decision to search for the truth, this is one rough journey.

Ms. Hoyle has built a future world that has moments of shining beauty...and monsters come to life that once were only in our nightmares.

Seventeen has been bred and raised to give the fruits of her womb to the Unified World Order. She's a Breeder, and that's her only job. Until something happens and despair trickled into her perfect world. She's not even sure why she feels this way.

Suddenly a man offers to help her. He says his name is Pax and he asks her for her name. She answers, Pria. He has to be a dream, but then the nightmare becomes truth and there's a death order on Seventeen's head. Escape is the only way for Pria to live.

Freedom is scary, but fills her with something that she finds she longed for. She still wonders if she can trust Pax, but it seems like the right thing to do as they search for a home.

Home comes with a cost and Pria has to decide if it's worth it.

I really think I need to add a warning here. Not sure how to word it without spoiling anything. Here goes: There are some deaths here that affected me greatly. I'd actually put the tag "horror" on the book, as I was pretty horrified at some points. Don't get me wrong, this book is good, great even...and I want the next one now. And if I could get the third and final book the moment after I read the last page of book two, Criminal, then that would be even better. But do be aware that some scenes are beyond tense.

"Breeder was anything but a let down. The characters were extremely well written, making me able to empathize with Pria and Pax and the situation they find themselves in. I kept turning the pages because I just had to find out what happened to these people and, to my shock, finished the book in a day! "  - Angela  Goodreads Review

Kathie's Review:

This is a sweet little romance. The kind where you settle in next to the fireplace with a cup of cocoa with whipped cream and read until it's done.

Kate has been secretly in love with her co-worker Brian for three years. She's finally going to tell him. But before she can gets the words out, he announces that he's heading to Vegas to marry his high school sweetheart. Kate is shocked. Then she decides to just fly there and stop the wedding. That is the extent of her plan.

With a shout, she interrupts the wedding...and then realizes Brian is not the groom. You'd think the groom would be pretty upset that his bride just walked out, but he's not. He quickly asks Kate to help him out. He needs to be married by the time he's thirty, and that's two days away.

Kate figures she missed Brian's wedding, she's not really happy with her life, and she has a pile of debt to pay down, due to the medical bills she accrued while trying to help her grandmother. So...she says yes, she'll marry the groom, Chad, in exchange for a cool million. Why not, right?

Chad doesn't tell Kate everything, and she keeps being surprised. First by the paparazzi, then when they meet his parents, and the fact that Brian not might be as married as she thought he was.

This story is very much like a Harlequin. That's praise, by the way! You know when you pick one up you are in for an hour of two of romance and an HEA. That's what we get here and I did enjoy it. BTW, I really liked Chad's dad, Hank!

I'll be looking for more from Ms. Williams in the future.
