Sacrificed to the Dragon by Jessie Donovan

Sacrificed to the Dragon: A Novel in Parts
Stonefire Dragons #1-4
September 22, 2014
by Jessie Donovan

In exchange for a vial of dragon's blood to save her brother's life, Melanie Hall offers herself up as a sacrifice to one of the British dragon-shifter clans. Being a sacrifice means signing a contract to live with the dragon-shifters for six months to try to conceive a child. Her assigned dragonman, however, is anything but easy. He's tall, broody, and alpha to the core. There's only one problem--he hates humans.

Due to human dragon hunters killing his mother, Tristan MacLeod despises humans. Unfortunately, his clan is in desperate need of offspring to repopulate their numbers and it's his turn to service a human female. Despite his plans to have sex with her and walk away, his inner dragon has other ideas. The curvy human female tempts his inner beast like no other.

NOTE: This is the entire first story arc of the Stonefire Dragons (Parts #1-4), complete with a HEA and no cliffhangers

Kathie's Review:

I saw the first portion of this for free and downloaded it. It was interesting enough that I bought the entire set. HUGE Disclaimer: I never have, and never will, buy a SERIAL book that is not complete. I've read literally hundreds of fan fiction stories and those are okay to read as WIPs (works in progress). But I'm not paying for that pleasure. I've been left high and dry several times as writers of fan fiction left the fandom and didn't finish their stories. So...I wouldn't ever buy a book that wasn't finished. I really wish Amazon would CLEARLY mark books that are serials. This author was kind enough to do so, and I give her props for that.

Back to the review. This story was finished, and after reading the free bit, I bought the boxed set. It didn't take very long to read, and I enjoyed it. I am very fond of dragon shifters and was pleased that we got to see these characters as human and dragon, both.

Ah, Tristan...he and his dragon are totally ALPHA, with Tristan being a bit of a jerk. His dragon is interested in a very short list of things: Food, Sleep, Flying, and Sex. With the emphasis on sex!

Their clan has been given a "sacrifice" in the form of Melanie Hall. In this world, sacrifices are volunteers. In her case, Melanie has offered herself up so her brother will get a vial of dragon blood to cure him of a particular malady. It's worth it to her to spend at least six months with some hot guy, trying to get her pregnant, to save her brother. The human women are offered the option of staying with their child, should they have one, which I thought was a nice touch.

Every so often, a dragon becomes "attached" to the human. Makes for some steamy scenes, that's for sure. Tristan's dragon really, really wants Melanie all for themselves. He was pretty sweet, finally!

This is basically smut...with a nice story line. There was some repetition (#NaNoWriMoSyndrome) and quite a bit of info dumping, but beyond that I enjoyed seeing this world. Ms. Donovan dedicated her book to Anne McCaffrey, and I thought that was nice, too. She was inspired by her, but took dragons and made her own world. Yes, it was enjoyable. I will have to check out more of her work.

Jessie Donovan wrote her first story at age five, and after discovering the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey in junior high, realized that people actually wanted to read stories like those floating around inside her head. From there on out, she was determined to tap into her over-active imagination and write a book someday.

After living abroad for five years and earning degrees in Japanese, Anthropology, and Secondary Education, she buckled down and finally wrote her first full-length book. While that story will never see the light of day, it laid the world-building groundwork of what would become her debut paranormal romance, Blaze of Secrets. In late 2014, she became a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author.

Jessie loves to interact with readers. When not reading a book or traipsing around some foreign country on a shoestring, can often be found on Facebook.
