Happy Release Day!!!

How to Marry a Royal Highlander
by Vanessa Kelly
Kensington Books

Illegitimate yet thoroughly irresistible, the Renegade Royals are leaving behind their careers as daring spies for the greatest adventure of all…

At sixteen, Alasdair Gilbride, heir to a Scottish earldom, fled the Highlands and an arranged betrothal. Ten years later, Alasdair must travel home to face his responsibilities. It's a task that would be much easier without the distracting presence of the most enticing woman he's ever met…

After one escapade too many, Eden Whitney has been snubbed by the ton. The solution: rusticating in the Scottish wilderness, miles from all temptation. Except, of course, for brawny, charming Alasdair. The man is so exasperating she'd likely kill him before they reach the border—if someone else weren't trying to do just that. Now Eden and Alasdair are plunging into a scandalous affair with his life and her reputation at stake—and their hearts already irreparably lost…

Once Upon a Cowboy by Maggie McGinnis

Happy Release Day!!!

By Maggie McGinnis

Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept

In this sexy Whisper Creek romance for readers of Kristan Higgins, Susan Mallery, and Molly O'Keefe, a red-hot cowboy uses some Montana magic to give a reclusive beauty her happily ever after.

Yoga instructor Jessalyn Alcott radiates peace, calm, and serenity—on the outside. Inside, she still feels like the broken, desperate girl from the trailer park. She's got dark secrets she can't share, which is why she never lets her relationships go beyond the third date. But when she travels to the Whisper Creek dude ranch for a friend's wedding, Jess is enchanted by a cowboy whose deep blue eyes, dimpled smile, and rock-hard body make it tough to remember why she keeps running scared.

Cole Driscoll has struggled to find his place on a family ranch where he's always played second fiddle. His future might be uncertain, but he's sure of one thing: He wants Jess by his side. Easier said than done. When it comes to getting close, she's full of excuses, and he longs to fix the hurt he sees in her eyes. Now that she's at Whisper Creek, there's nothing he wants more than to break down the walls around her heart and heal her pain with the power of love.

Kathie's Review:

This is the third book in the Whisper Creek Series by Maggie McGinnis. I've read the second one, A Cowboy's Christmas Promise, and loved it.

You know, we read romance novels to follow the main characters' journey to an HEA. I expect there to be a few road bumps along the way. I want them to earn their HEA. In this book, the heart fail is huge! And dark. Jess had a hard life...like scary, heartbreakingly hard. I really wanted her to get that HEA, that's for sure.

Once again, Montana is almost a supporting character here. I wanted to breathe the air, ride the horses, play in the waterfall! I also wanted to HARM the bad guys here...

Jess has been hiding from her past but it catches up to her just as she's leaving Boston for Hayley's wedding at Whisper Creek. Hayley was the star of the second book, and we saw Cole and Jess there, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Jess take hold of her destiny, and stand up for what was right for her. Sometimes we have to hold the alpha male back and just do it ourselves...and I was very proud of Jess. And then I wanted to slap some bad guys, again!

This is one of those books that you might want to read when you have a goodly chunk of time to read. Because you aren't going to want to put it down until that HEA (and what a GOOD one it was, too!) comes together. Yes, I highly recommend this book.

Dark Horse by Michelle Diener

Dark Horse

Season Publishing
June 15, 2015

Romance, Sci Fi & Fantasy

Some secrets carry the weight of the world.

Rose McKenzie may be far from Earth with no way back, but she's made a powerful ally--a fellow prisoner with whom she's formed a strong bond. Sazo's an artificial intelligence. He's saved her from captivity and torture, but he's also put her in the middle of a conflict, leaving Rose with her loyalties divided.

Captain Dav Jallan doesn't know why he and his crew have stumbled across an almost legendary Class 5 battleship, but he's not going to complain. The only problem is, all its crew are dead, all except for one strange, new alien being.

She calls herself Rose. She seems small and harmless, but less and less about her story is adding up, and Dav has a bad feeling his crew, and maybe even the four planets, are in jeopardy. The Class 5's owners, the Tecran, look set to start a war to get it back and Dav suspects Rose isn't the only alien being who survived what happened on the Class 5. And whatever else is out there is playing its own games.

In this race for the truth, he's going to have to go against his leaders and trust the dark horse.

Kathie's Review:

One review I read about this story called it a "gem". They are right. It truly is a gem, highly polished and a wonderful read.

I've always been fond of the "human abducted by aliens and finds love" trope. This one went beyond that by a long shot. Does that sound gushy? Well, it's true! We start in the middle of Rose's escape from her alien abductors. She's taking Sazo, the AI of the ship, who is housed in a crystal with her. It's his escape, too. He's been captive for some time. He's only just recently become self-aware. Much like a toddler, he has a lot to learn. And Rose is teaching him.

Rose has been held captive for three months. She's been tortured, starved, and has been scared nearly to death. But she has survived. While she's not sure she trusts Sazo, she knows she trusts him more than those who are holding her captive. She does insist that the Earth animals who were taken with her come with them on their run to freedom.

There is a group of aliens that work together. Sazo has chosen the Grih for Rose. He figures they are the best fit for the human woman. He's come to care for her...and she did help him escape.

Captain Dav Jallan is intrigued by the human. He and his crew are in awe over the fact she is an orange...a certifiable ALIEN. None have been discovered in something like 500 years of exploration. One of the many amazing things about Rose is that she likes to sing. The Grih have very few people who can make music. It is a big deal for them...and Rose's voice (even though she doesn't think it's anything special) brings them joy like none other.

So, she's a music maker, she's an alien, and she's keeping silent about Sazo. She's got lots on her plate. I totally enjoyed how she walked a fine line between keeping Sazo secret and trying to be fair and honest with her new-found allies. And she needs those allies because the people, the Tecran, who created the ship Sazo was the AI for, want him, and it, back. And they don't care if they have to kill the orange to do it.

Some of the most enjoyable moments came between Rose and Sazo. She is his moral compass...and she teaches him about Sherlock Holmes (leaving out the part where he is fictional) and his sidekick Watson. A truly LOL moment when she finds she may be making stuff up about S&W...but then remembers she's the only one within light years that would even know about them!

There were several funny moments. Lots of adventure, some sweet romance, and a whole new world that I want to see more of. There are more Class 5 ships out there...and I want to know what happens with them.

I haven't read any of Ms. Diener's other books, but I'm going to remedy that soon! I loved this and will definitely read more of this author's work.

Guardian of Werewolf Keep by Nhys Glover

Genre: Paranormal Romance

"Perfect for readers who enjoy love stories with substance and a classical supernatural touch." Amazon Reviewer

Philomena Davenport is shocked at her first sight of Breckenhill Keep, the monstrous ruin she had inherited from the father who had deserted her as a child. Even more shocking was the mysterious stipulation in the Will that required her to remain at the Keep for three months, before she could claim her inheritance. How could she do that when the Guardian of the Keep, the handsomely daunting Byron Carstairs, wants her gone, and the spine chilling howls echoing up from the bowels of the ruin urge her to escape while she still can? But Phil is made of firmer stuff than that. She will take on the denizens of this dark domain, and make the place her own. No monster or man would keep her from it, and only love could drive her away.

For Byron, Phil is a light in the darkness of his duty-bound life. He had never expected to meet someone as beautiful, courageous or compassionate as she. In only days, she manages to spin her magic around the hearts of all who dwell within the sanctuary. But no matter how much they needed her, it is no kindness to keep her there. She deserved far better than a burdened man and a castle filled with monsters. For her own good, he must drive her light from his dark life.

After a lifetime of teaching others to appreciate the written word, Aussie author Nhys Glover finally decided to make the most of the Indie Book Revolution to get her own written word out to the world. Now, with more than 100,000 of her ebooks downloaded internationally and a winner of 2013 SFR Galaxy Award for 'The Titan Drowns', Nhys finds her words, too, are being appreciated.

At home in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales of England, Nhys these days spends most of her time "living the dream" by looking out over the moors from her window as she writes the kind of novels she loves to read. The ones that are a little bit steamy, a little bit different, and wholly romantic.

Wicked Ride by Rebecca Zanetti

Happy Release Day!!!

Wicked Ride

“Non-stop action and a hero to die for!” —Alexandra Ivy
If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she's not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can't seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he's landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He's all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he's one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks…

Kathie's Review:

This is Book One in the Realm Enforcers Series. A few characters from the Dark Protectors Series make appearances, which is always fun. But you don't have to have read that series to read this one, although you'll want to!

Once again Ms. Zanetti gives us a gorgeous hero who is alpha to the max. But he's pretty much met his match with Alexandra. When they meet, she's playing the damsel in distress, and even though she sees some pretty freaky things, she still tries to arrest him and to interrogate him about this new, deadly drug that makes people burn.

She has a hard time trying to decide if Kellach is a good guy. Their trust in each other isn't always what it should be, but she keeps her backbone stiff and works through the issues. His Irish accent makes it easier, that's for sure.

I had a good laugh at one point. Kellach needs condoms, well, he doesn't NEED them, as his witchiness will keep her from getting pregnant, or diseased, but she insists upon the protection. This big, alpha guy buys a pile of stuff that he doesn't need, just so the box of condoms didn't stand out. Like the clerk cared! Yes, I laughed.

They are mates, but how can that be so? He's immortal and she's human. Yep, issues to work out, but it was fun to read how they came together. Lots of other hot hunks to star in the next books in the series, too. Thankfully, this author is prolific and we shouldn't have to wait too long to see another Realm Enforcer! If you are looking for a PNR to sink your teeth into, this one is for you.

Abigail's Bio:

Abigail Lee Justice writes emotional, erotic, romantic suspense that includes a BDSM theme. She creates strong characters who seem real but are flawed in some ways; some couples Happily Ever After will be a work in process. Some characters’ problems are just too steamy to fix in one book.

Born and raised in Baltimore City by two wonderful, supportive, loving parents, as a child Abigail made up vivid stories in her head. Until one day a friend told her instead of keeping her stories locked in her head she needed to put them on paper and that’s exactly what she did.

Abigail met her husband 29 years ago on a blind date (thanks Dan C.) while working a part time job to put herself through college. She fell madly in love with her Prince Charming and has been since the first day they met.

By day, Abigail practices medicine in a busy Cardiologist practice. By evening she switches her white coat for more relaxed comfortable clothing. She has two wonderful adult sons and a very spoiled chocolate lab. In the wee hours of the night, she writes BDSM romances.

In her spare time when not working or writing, Abigail enjoys reading, concocting vegetarian dishes, exotic vacations, scuba diving, high adventure activities, living in the lifestyle she writes about, and doing lots and lots of research making sure her characters get it just right.

Thomas by Grace Burrowes

The Jaded Gentlemen Book 1
By Grace Burrowes
June 2, 2015

Thomas Jennings arrives to his newly acquired estate to find that his steward has fled under a cloud of scandal, and the property has been held together by Miss Loris Tanner, the steward's daughter. Thomas knows what it's like to not fit in, and he's pragmatic enough to respect results, so he gives Loris a chance to maintain her position in a profession uniformly undertaken by men.

Thomas learns about the complexities of estate management from his unlikely tutor, despite somebody's attempts to drive him off his own land. Mishaps turn into near tragedies, while between Thomas and Loris, respect and liking grow into attraction. Who is sabotaging Thomas's estate, and what choices will Loris face when the malefactor has been revealed?

Kathie's Review:

Thomas is the first book in a new series by Grace Burrowes, The Jaded Gentlemen. Anyone who has read The Lonely Lords series has met Thomas Jennings. I was really thrilled when he got his own book.

Thomas is wearing his title under duress. His twin cousins came to a bad end and he is now Baron Sutcliffe. He's bought a lovely estate, and as he visits for the first time, he walks in on an execution... of a horse!

Loris Tanner, Thomas' land steward, is standing firm against the stable master who wants to put her horse down. She's had a hard battle working as the steward because she's a woman. While she knows the land better than anyone else around, there are men who just won't listen. Thankfully, Thomas is not one of those men.

One of the elements of this book that I enjoyed very much were the horses. They all have great names (Evan, Seamus, and Rupert!) and are in the books a lot.

I also like the fact that these characters talk things out. They get to know each other. It tickled me when she would think he was interesting...and then HE would think the same thing. They both came to their attraction because of the same reasons. They are both intelligent, attractive, and lonely. They both are also a bit jaded. They've seen life, and have been hit by some hard knocks. They really do need each other.

While I guessed as to who the bad guys were, the angst didn't have me on the edge of my seat. Thank goodness! The UST was lovely and the culmination even better.

Another point that tickles me about Ms. Burrowes' series...she always brings characters from earlier books back in. It's like old home week! Nicholas! Beckman! David!!! It's always so much fun to visit with characters that I've grown to love. And now I'm looking forward to Squire Belmont's story next.

Thank you, Sandi Layne, for loaning me this book!

Duty and Desire by Elise de Sallier

Happy Release Day!!!

Book 2 of The Hearts of Honour Series
by Elise de Sallier

Release Date: June 18 , 2015
Genre: FICTION / Romance / Historical / Regency / Steamy
Available from: Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and TWCS PH

Grace Daniels, the village of Hartley’s resident midwife and herbalist, would like nothing more than to ease the suffering of Jonathan Loring’s young son, Peter. But the widowed Blackthorn estate manager is as prejudiced against her illegitimacy as he is her “witchy” profession. When Peter’s physicians say they can do no more for the boy, Jonathan finds himself in the unenviable position of having to turn to the woman whose skills he has scorned.

Drawn together out of duty, Jonathan and Grace’s relationship soon becomes characterised by a not-so-hidden desire. Having found a degree of independence unheard of for a lady, Grace has no intention of submitting to the bonds of matrimony. Not that Jonathan, who has lost his inheritance and has to work for a living, is in any position to propose.

With marriage out of the question, their only option is both shocking and dangerous . . . to become lovers.

Kathie's Review:

I was so excited to get Grace's story after reading the first book in the series, Passion and Propriety. Grace was a wonderful supporting character there and she's a fabulous main character here. She's strong and it irks her to be just a wee bit jealous of the relationship Hannah and William had in that book. As a bastard daughter and a woman who works for her living with her midwifery skills, she doesn't think she's going to be able find a husband of her own.

Jonathan has been looking for a cure for his young son's illness for years. Unfortunately, the doctors of the time have nearly killed the little guy. He's at his wit's end when he agrees to let Grace examine young Peter. They work together to bring him back to health. And instead of sniping at each other (as they have been for ages) they find an attraction between them that gives us, the reader, a very satisfying case of UST (unresolved sexual tension). Even as Grace tells Jonathan that he needs a more "gently bred" young woman as his wife, the two enter into a secret relationship...and goodness me...is it hot! But it's not "just" sex...no, this is love and it's fabulous.

A great cast of supporting characters add a lovely depth to the story. And some laughs, too. I did love young Peter!

Loved this book, and now I want more from this author. I highly recommend this book to people who want that Regency experience with a side of steam...and love.

Thank you, TWCS and Netgalley, for the opportunity to read this book

Grace Daniels pulled her cloak tightly around her shoulders. The blustery wind tugged strands of her long, black hair free from her bun, intent on using them to whip her face. To add insult to injury, the misty rain—which she could have borne quite easily—was now falling in heavy splats. Several icy drips had worked their way through her worn, woollen wrap, sending shivers down her spine.

What joy.

Duty-&-Desire-3D-Paperback-1As the midwife and herbalist for the village of Hartley, Grace traipsed around the countryside in all sorts of weather, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t a trial. She really should have taken up William, the viscount Blackthorn, on his offer to supply her with a horse-drawn chaise. How she would find time to care for a horse was beyond her. There were so few hours left in her day already, certainly not enough for a decent night’s sleep on the rare occasion she wasn’t called out to assist with a birth or an emergency. If the viscount knew the reason for her reluctance, he would probably offer to pay for a stable boy to assist her. But Grace didn’t like to feel beholden—not even to her best friend’s husband—although it was somewhat unavoidable, considering he now funded her work.

Startled by a horse’s whinny, she looked over her shoulder to see—as if conjured from her imagination—just the sort of hooded chaise William had suggested would be suitable for her needs. Unfortunately, the driver was more likely to appear in her nightmares than her daydreams.

EliseA great believer in living happily ever after, Elise began her lifelong obsession with the romance and paranormal genres when she was far too young to be reading either. After more than thirty years of marriage to her very own romantic hero, she now knows great relationships don't just happen, they take work . . . which doesn't mean writing about them can't be a whole lot of fun!
While raising a family, Elise established a career as a counsellor and family therapist. Seeking an escape from the stresses of her work, she discovered the world of fan fiction, and her timid writer's muse made its voice heard. After 2.3 million hits, 20,000 reviews, and an e-mail from an acquisitions editor at The Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House, her life found a new and fascinating direction.
Elise likes to see her characters grow, experience passion and adventure, tackle some difficult issues, and find lasting love . . . eventually.

“This is probably one of my favorite historical romances I have read this year.” Jen, Red Hot Books
“I’ll definitely be picking up more books by this author and can't wait for the next instalment of this series which stars Hannah’s friend, Grace.”Amy Alvis, Historical Romance Lover
“I loved it. That could be my entire review, right there. But I need to gush a bit more. A wounded hero. A woman with a backbone and caring heart. A bit of angst as I wonder if they will overcome the obstacles that stand in their way of true love.... The flow of the story was natural, not rushed, and I enjoyed every page. I’m very happy to hear that there will be more in Ms. de Sallier’s Hearts of Honour series. I want the next one now!” Kathie, First Page to the Last Book Reviews
“This is the third book I’ve read by this author and I couldn’t help falling in love with de Sallier’s characters once again. I was completely taken into the story not just by Hannah and William, but by the secondary characters at the same time... If you enjoy Regency Romance, you will love Passion & Propriety.” Lindsey Gray, Author on Author Book Reviews

Accidentally in Love by Laura Drewry

 AccidentallyIn Love
Friends First # 3

By: Laura Drewry
Releasing June 16, 2015

Fans of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery will love Laura Drewry’s warm and humorous new Friends First romance, a sexy romp about a good cop and a bad girl playing hard to get.

Ellie Palmer and cops don’t mix, and getting pulled over by Officer Brett Hale—again—doesn’t help. Neither does being forced to take a safe-driving course with him. Brett’s by-the-book attitude leaves Ellie ice-cold, and his rock-hard body won’t change that. Still, the more time she spends with the guy, the more she finds herself warming up to his unexpected charms.

Even though Brett comes off like a boy scout, Ellie has sparked something he wants badly enough to get him to rethink his past mistakes. But when her ex shows up, Brett makes it his mission to keep Ellie safe in the here and now. His gut tells him the guy’s trouble, and Ellie must agree, because she doesn’t complain when Brett pulls her close. To keep her safe, though, he’ll have to choose between breaking her heart . . . and breaking the rules.

Kathie's Review:

This is the third book in the Friends First Series. It can be read as a stand alone. But I loved the first two books, Plain Jayne and Prima Donna. The characters from those books are in this one, too.

As I read the first page of this book, I remembered one of the reasons I give this author's a FIVE BOOKMARK rating: The flow is so well done. She doesn't use flowery prose. As an editor, there isn't one thing I'd change. Her writing pulls me in and immediately immerses me in the story. She pulls my heartstrings and then she makes me laugh. She gives me a great HEA with all the feels necessary.

Yep. All that.

We start with Ellie getting another ticket from Officer Brett. We don't know how many this makes, but it's a LOT...and he takes her license, too. You know that saying about love and hate being two sides to the same coin? Well, Ellie is pretty sure she is coming up on hate for this law officer. Mind you, she has deserved every ticket she's been given, which just ticks her off more.

For his part, Brett Hale is a by the book guy. He's not targeting her, he just catches her speeding all the time. He wonders how they are going to work together on the slow pitch team he's just joined, but her honesty dovetails nicely with his drive.

One of the reasons they strike sparks off each other is because she was pretty much done badly by other officers when she was jailed for drug charges; jailed even though she was innocent. When Ellie's creepy ex shows up, it irks her that she has to depend on Brett for protection while the police try and catch him.

Their relationship grows and changes, and it was a joy to read. Add in the laughs brought about by a visit from her mother and this book definitely goes on the TO READ AGAIN shelf!

With this one, the four women we've come to know, Jayne, Regan, Ellie, and Maya are once again a delight to read about. The next book puts Maya in the lead, and I can hardly wait to read her journey to an HEA.

I highly recommend this book! I hope you enjoy it, too!

The Clockwork Crown by Beth Cato

Title: The Clockwork Crown
Author: Beth Cato
Publisher: Harper Voyage Impulse
Pages: 352
Genre: Steampunk
Format: Kindle

Rich in atmosphere, imagination, and fun, the action-packed, magic-filled sequel to The Clockwork Dagger is an enchanting steampunk fantasy, evocative of the works of Trudi Canavan and Gail Carriger.

Narrowly surviving assassination and capture, Octavia Leander, a powerful magical healer, is on the run with handsome Alonzo Garrett, the Clockwork Dagger who forfeited his career with the Queen’s secret society of spies and killers—and possibly his life—to save her. Now, they are on a dangerous quest to find safety and answers: Why is Octavia so powerful? Why does she seem to be undergoing a transformation unlike any witnessed for hundreds of years?

The truth may rest with the source of her mysterious healing power—the Lady’s Tree. But the tree lies somewhere in a rough, inhospitable territory known as the Waste. Eons ago, this land was made barren and uninhabitable by an evil spell, until a few hardy souls dared to return over the last century. For years, the Waste has waged a bloody battle against the royal court to win its independence—and they need Octavia’s powers to succeed.

Joined by unlikely allies, including a menagerie of gremlin companions, she must evade killers and Clockwork Daggers on a dangerous journey through a world on the brink of deadly civil war.
