The Horse List by Anna Lores

Welcome to my tour stop of The Horse List by Anna Lores.  This is a contemporary erotic romance novel.  The tour runs from August 31 to September 4.  Check out the tour schedule here.

This work contains mature content, including graphic sexual descriptions and scenes, and is provided for adults only.

Recently divorced from an abusive husband still intent to control her life, Ava Black has two weeks before she moves back to her conservative hometown to start her life over.

Encouraged by her best friend, she resurrects the wish list she started as a young girl when her number one desire was her very own horse. Over the years, The Horse List had become a mature list of her most erotic sexual fantasies and a symbol of her rebirth as an independent woman. She can complete some of the items alone, but not everything. She needs a sexually experienced partner with resources and the connections to places she’s only dreamed of going.

Could the handsome and wealthy artist Eric North be the partner she seeks? Will her drive to complete the list be enough to overcome her fear of him discovering the scars left from years of abuse? Will Eric protect her from her ex-husband, or will she go home with her unrequited love, Brady Ross, and give up her one chance to complete The Horse List?

She moaned as everything wrong in her life faded into the background. She was in Eric’s world imagining those masculine hands lifting her up, slipping beneath her pants and... Crap. She was not doing that. She didn’t need a man screwing with her head again. Her hands trembled as she covered his hands with her own. “Not happening, Mr. North.” She pushed his hands away from her. It shouldn’t have been so hard to make her limbs move from her position, but it was. It was darn hard.
He stepped forward, blocking her from leaving as if he were protecting her. “It’s Mr. North now, Ava?”
The smooth, freshly-shaven skin of his cheek brushed up against her in a slow, sweeping arch from the curve of her neck to her cheek. He took her hands and held them over her head, pinning her against the cool, marble wall of the elevator.
“It is, Mr. North. Please call me Ms. Black.” Her voice was low and sexy and geez, it was a little shaky. She wasn’t a virgin. She shouldn’t be that nervous around a man. But, then again, he was nothing like any man she’d met before. He exuded charisma and power without even trying. He, so close to her, made her ache for things she knew she couldn’t have.
“But I like your first name, Ava. I like the way it rolls off my tongue when I say it…Ava.”
“This is inappropriate, Mr. North. You’re only going to give me a tattoo,” she said, barely getting her volume over a whisper.
Her blood burned in her veins from his close proximity, from his demanding hold on her. She needed air. She was going to faint from all the oxygen in the small space getting sucked into his fire.
“Ms. Black,” he stepped back and leaned his torso forward, gently pressing his forehead against hers. “If you think all I’m giving you is a tattoo, you’re as naïve as a child.”
She kept her eyes averted, readying for the lie she kept telling herself. “All I want is a tattoo, Eric. You seem to be the only person in a hundred mile radius that can give me one. I don’t want more from you.”
She ducked down, pulled out of his tender hold on her wrists, and slipped out of the elevator.
It wasn’t the most mature thing to do, but she sprinted at top speed through the door to her car to get as far away from him as possible, immediately recognizing the problem with the hot, demanding man. She wanted everything from him—sex, marriage, kids. That was never happening. Not in Compass, Illinois. Not with Eric North. Probably not ever if her ex-husband had anything to do with it.

Anna started writing romance as a by-product of insomnia. After a year of late night reading, she borrowed her son’s laptop after he went to bed each night, and set about breathing life to her very own characters. After a month of writing in the middle of the night, she was surprised with a new laptop of her own to pursue her dreams. With a B.A. in English Literature and a desire to fill her world with wonderful stories she and her close friends could not just talk about, but gush over, she shed her job as mom of three in the late night hours and assumed her alter ego of dirty girl.

The author is offering 2 $10 Amazon or B&N Gift Card and 1 PDF copy of “The Horse List” to the winners of the Rafflecopter.   Giveaway ends September 15th.

His secret (alien) crush...

I may be a Prince, but there are things that trouble me about my father's royal rule-the forced abduction, experimentation, and torture of alien creatures. The king has a new prisoner who's a carefully kept secret...

There's a young female who belongs to a little-known civilization I have been studying extensively. They are human, belonging to a small, undeveloped planet called Earth. She is pretty in a way I find unusual and compelling. Sometimes I sneak into the adjoining cell and we talk about everything and nothing, even as I find myself yearning to touch her strange, soft skin.

Skin that is being subjected to invasive tests and experiments. A body that's scheduled for a live dissection in fifteen days. And a life that will be terminated unless I risk my future and life to help her escape...

A Note From the Publisher
This sexy and suspenseful anthology contains 4 original novellas by 4 bestselling authors and their ongoing series: Alexandra Ivy's Sentinels, Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians, Hannah Jayne's Underworld Detection Agency and an exciting prequel novella to Rebecca Zanetti's new dystopian series, The Scorpius Syndrome, coming in February 2016.

Kathie's Review:

When I saw that Rebecca Zanetti had a hand in this one, with her Scorpius Rising, I couldn't wait to read it. This is the prequel novella in The Scorpius Syndrome Series. And what an exciting start it is.

Something is  killing people...or worse. Nora and her friend Lynne are racing to find out exactly what Scorpius is and to find a cure for it. Nora is a bit distracted by her ex-husband Deacon. He's all male...and his Scottish accent keeps chipping away at her focus. For his part, Deacon has always regretted their divorce and he wants her back. He also needs to protect her from a crazed stalker who is out to infect as many people with Scorpius as he can.

There are lots of tense moments as something alien begins to take over. A truly scary scenario that really could happen. Ms. Zanetti did loads of research so this reads "real". I look forward to seeing Mercury Striking (The Scorpius Syndrome #1) when it comes out in January 2016.

I will certainly be getting to the other stories, too! They look great. This one is most definitely a four bookmark rating.

Thank you, Kensington and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book.

New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor, and a hearing examiner - only to culminate it all in stories about Alpha males and the women who claim them. She is a member of RWA, has won awards for her works throughout the industry, and has a journalism degree with a poly sci emphasis from Pepperdine University as well as a Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given  Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides in the wild north with her husband, children, and extended family who inspire her every day-or at the very least give her plenty of characters to write about.

Not Always a Saint
by Mary Jo Putney
Kensington Books

Romance, History
Pub Date Aug 25, 2015

After the death of his sweetheart when he was at university, Daniel Herbert buried his grief in medical studies and his passion for healing. Viewed as a saint by those who know him, in his own mind he never quite manages to live up to his own high standards.

Most men would be thrilled to learn they've inherited a title and estate from a distant relative, but Daniel is appalled because the burden of wealth will interfere with his medical calling. Warily he accepts that he must enter society and seek a wife—a sensible woman who can oversee his properties, leaving him free to continue his work. He does not expect to become intoxicated by a woman called the Black Widow, who is as mysterious as she is shockingly beautiful…

Jessie Kelham's looks have always been a curse. Now alone with a young daughter and a perilous secret, she is in need of protection. But dangerously attractive Daniel Herbert is not the kind of husband she has in mind. If he recognizes her, the demons of her past will surely erupt. Yet they cannot keep apart—and soon they are drawn into a union that may bring joy—or shattering danger…

Kathie's Review:

This is the 7th book in the Lost Lords Series. I've only read the 6th...and loved it. I enjoyed this one even more.

I liked Daniel a lot. He's a vicar, he's a surgeon, he's a healer...and now he's a lord. This last isn't something he's ever wanted. It seems like it will take a lot of time from his vocation of doctor. He begins to see some hope in the title when his brother-in-law (Lord Kirkland from the last book) mentions all the good his newly acquired wealth can do. But...he's going to need a very helpful wife to organize and run his life...and all those houses and properties. He has a short of things he's looking for in a spouse...and while he wants her to be somewhat attractive, a Diamond of the First Water is not on that list. So when he sees Jessie across a crowded room and is immediately hit with lust...well, he figures he needs to just walk away.

Jessie, for her part, has just lost her very elderly husband. They both love their four year old daughter and he left her the title of Lady. This is not good news for the nephew that thought he would get nearly everything. He makes threats and Jessie realizes she's going to need another husband to keep her daughter safe. That would be husband #3. When she and Daniel lock eyes across that room and then meet, she is in lust, too. It has been a very long time since she's felt that way, but Daniel just can't be the husband she needs. He's much too attractive...and young.

When things come to a head with that nasty nephew, the only way to find safety for Beth is a marriage between her mother and Daniel.

That's when the real fun begins. These two aren't in love, even though the lust is thick. They have to come to know each other...and I truly enjoyed their path to happiness.

Ms. Putney adds twists and turns, bad guys, and people showing up from the dead. It was quite the journey for these two...and I loved it and I highly recommend it.

Thank you, Kensington and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book.

Beauty and the Werewolf
A San Francisco Wolfpack Novel

by Kristen Miller

Entangled Covet
Romance, Sci Fi & Fantasy
Pub Date Aug 25, 2015

Unmated werewolves don’t normally live past three hundred years old...and billionaire Jack MacGrath is cutting it close. Sure, he has almost everything—the respect of his peers, a mansion in San Francisco, a private jet, and fast cars. But without a mate, Jack's in trouble. Then he sees her. Gorgeous, proud...and his enemy.

Isabelle Connelly is good at hiding things from her father. Like her success as a painter, or the incredibly intense attraction she has to Jack MacGrath. After all, she's royalty and falling for anyone lesser—to say nothing of a rival pack—would be, er, unseemly. Now she must choose between her duty to her family and her pack...or her perfect fated mate.

Kathie's Review:

I have read, and really enjoyed, several books by this author. I could hardly wait to crack this one open, especially as our heroine is an artist. I paint, too, and thought I'd really enjoy reading about a fellow artist...and shifters.

Unfortunately, that was not the case here. Not every book was written for every reader, and this book proves that for me.

First, what I liked about the book. Jack...I liked Jack a lot. He's a shifter who hasn't found his fated mate...his Luminary. He's way over 300 years old and the only way he's surviving is massive amounts of adrenaline on a daily basis. He's pretty much given up hope of finding his mate...and thereby being able to live for another 700 years or so. But he's a good guy...and he's kept searching...and he isn't a man whore. He does good things in the art world.

Then he touches Isabelle's hand...and lights flash, electricity zings up his arm and into his heart. She's his fated mate. But...she doesn't feel it. Jack has about a dozen of the paintings she's looking for; they just had a bidding war over one during an auction. He doesn't know she's the artist behind the works and she doesn't know how many he has. He uses them to entice her to stay just a little longer before she heads back to Ireland.

Isabelle has been looking for all of her sold paintings so she can have a show for her dad. He's the alpha of their pack and she's been trained to follow in his footsteps. He told her years ago she needed to leave the painting behind and focus on studying and learning all the ins and outs of pack leadership.

This is where the book fell apart for me. He tells her they are mates and that he'll DIE SOON if she doesn't accept the bond. She finally comes to believe it...but her daddy is dying and she has to leave HER DYING LOVE to put on an art show so daddy dearest can maybe give her his approval. Um...True Love is DYING...and she leaves him. Says she'll be back. But she's seen that he really is on his last legs...and she leaves. Oh, and she takes the ONE painting she gifted him...without asking for permission. She takes it knowing it gives him that little spark of life...that *might* just keep him going until she might return.

There were so many inconsistencies in the shifter mythos this author has created. They can smell really well...except for when they can't. For instance, at one point Jack is IN her home castle...she doesn't see him...and more importantly, she doesn't smell him even when she steps into the room he was just in. She can mind speak with him...except she doesn't do it when it would make the most sense.

This is a shifter book...and there is hardly any shifting and Isabelle never does.

At one point she's painting. Jack mentions all of her grand hand gestures as she paints...and then we find out it's an 8"x11" painting. With lots of stuff in it...the moon, the Golden Gate Bridge, Jack (in his fur) an artist myself, I went "what?" For a painting that small, there would be no grand hand gestures and wild flinging of paint. That was odd.

Daddy Alpha says she must marry in the pack. At this point they know her Fated Mate is not among the pack. So...he insists she marry one of them anyway...knowing she'll die at around 300 years. And when she says she's found her mate? Yeah, because of who he is, DA says: marriage and Luminary Status for you! Die when you are was a total WTH moment for me.

The plot inconsistencies, the TSTL moments from both of these characters kept me from enjoying this book. There are a lot of raving reviews for this one. So the issues that bothered me could just be me, you know? You may enjoy it a whole lot. I will be looking for more from Ms. Miller...because I've really enjoyed so many of her other books. Maybe you will like this one more than me.

I've rated it 2.5...but I'm rounding it to a three at all sites.

Thank you, Entangled and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book.

The Murderer's Daughter by Jonathan Kellerman

Happy Release Day!

The Murderer's Daughter
by Jonathan Kellerman

Mystery & Thrillers, Literature/Fiction (Adult)
Pub Date Aug 18, 2015

From the #1 New York Times bestselling creator of the acclaimed Alex Delaware series comes a tour de force standalone novel that illustrates perfectly why “Jonathan Kellerman has justly earned his reputation as a master of the psychological thriller” (People).

A brilliant, deeply dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches—perhaps because she bears her own invisible scars: Only five years old when she witnessed her parents’ deaths in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. But even as an adult with an accomplished professional life, Grace still has a dark, secret side. When her two worlds shockingly converge, Grace’s harrowing past returns with a vengeance.

Both Grace and her newest patient are stunned when they recognize each other from a recent encounter. Haunted by his bleak past, mild-mannered Andrew Toner is desperate for Grace’s renowned therapeutic expertise and more than willing to ignore their connection. And while Grace is tempted to explore his case, which seems to eerily echo her grim early years, she refuses—a decision she regrets when a homicide detective appears on her doorstep.

An evil she thought she’d outrun has reared its head again, but Grace fears that a police inquiry will expose her double life. Launching her own personal investigation leads her to a murderously manipulative foe, one whose warped craving for power forces Grace back into the chaos and madness she’d long ago fled.

Guest Review:

My mom has read nearly everything this author has written.
She jumped at the chance to read it on my kindle:

Her words:

I have read and enjoyed many of Mr. Kellerman's books and Murderer's Daughter gets 3 stars.  I loved the premise  Foster System child makes good etc.  However, there was way to much "detail" about, in my view, unimportant things.  Seemed like just filler.   I also like the "bad" guy to get more punishment than this one had.  Still a decent read.  His fans will enjoy it and he might pickup a few more.

Thank you, Ballantine Books (Random House) and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book

Jonathan Kellerman was born in New York City in 1949 and grew up in Los Angeles. He helped work his way through UCLA as an editorial cartoonist, columnist, editor and freelance musician. As a senior, at the age of 22, he won a Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award for fiction.

Like his fictional protagonist, Alex Delaware, Jonathan received at Ph.D. in psychology at the age of 24, with a specialty in the treatment of children. He served internships in clinical psychology and pediatric psychology at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles and was a post-doctoral HEW Fellow in Psychology and Human Development at CHLA.

IN 1975, Jonathan was asked by the hospital to conduct research into the psychological effects of extreme isolation (plastic bubble units) on children with cancer, and to coordinate care for these kids and their families. The success of that venture led to the establishment, in 1977 of the Psychosocial Program, Division of Oncology, the first comprehensive approach to the emotional aspects of pediatric cancer anywhere in the world. Jonathan was asked to be founding director and, along with his team, published extensively in the area of behavioral medicine. Decades later, the program, under the tutelage of one of Jonathan's former students, continues to break ground.

Jonathan's first published book was a medical text, PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF CHILDHOOD CANCER, 1980. One year later, came a book for parents, HELPING THE FEARFUL CHILD.

In 1985, Jonathan's first novel, WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKS, was published to enormous critical and commercial success and became a New York Times bestseller. BOUGH was also produced as a t.v. movie and won the Edgar Allan Poe and Anthony Boucher Awards for Best First Novel. Since then, Jonathan has published a best-selling crime novel every year, and occasionally, two a year. In addition, he has written and illustrated two books for children and a nonfiction volume on childhood violence, SAVAGE SPAWN (1999.) Though no longer active as a psychotherapist, he is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Psychology at University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

Jonathan is married to bestselling novelist Faye Kellerman and they have four children.

Kathie's Review:

Charming! Charming! Charming! Yep...about sums it up. I've always enjoyed Lisa Kleypas' writing style. It's very smooth, and reads "real", especially in her contemporary series. This is the 4th book in the Travis Family. You don't have to have read the earlier books, but I'm sure you'll enjoy them, too. The characters from those books make appearances here.

Avery has been hurt in love...jilted at the altar. But that hasn't stopped her from creating, and running, a very successful wedding/event salon with her sister. It has stopped her from wanting to give her heart to anyone. Her father, what a jerk BTW, pretty much told her at that point that no man was to be trusted, and love was a myth. So...she plans and executes beautiful weddings...believing that there really isn't an HEA out there for anyone. She rather thinks it's an HEA for the weddings...not for the marriages.

Then she meets Joe Travis. This wonderful man is in it for the long haul. I think Joe might be one of the top ten "book boyfriends" out there. When he thinks that their one night stand had left her wanting...something...he immediately insists that she let him have a second give her whatever she needs. Yeah...he's good like that! And for that...he's really pretty swoony.

Besides trying to overcome Avery's trust issues, there are some secondary characters with issues of their own. And they were really fun to read. Her sister, Sophia, and her assistant, Steven...yes, good times there! While you will also want to smack Sophia's mother, I'm sure. And Coco? The old dog? Yeah...she was a great addition, too.

I truly enjoyed this romp, and now I want Ryan's story! He deserves some happiness, too. A very enjoyable read, and I hope you find your way to it, too!

Thank you,  St. Martins and Netgalley, for the opportunity to read this book.

About the Authors

Jessica Jayne is a born and raised small town Ohio girl, who moved to the Sunshine State after graduating from college. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in English because she could not imagine doing anything else but reading and writing. In the journey of life, she obtained her law degree (and bar license) and also became a wife and a mother of three children. So, life is always an adventure.

She loves to read and write... obviously! She’s a huge sports fan, especially college football and The Ohio State Buckeyes!  Go Steelers! Go Rays! Go Lightning! She LOVES to travel... LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to travel. She loves to drink coffee in the morning and tea at night! She loves a good glass of wine, especially if it comes from a bottle made by the FOOLS wine club… yep, she’s a founding member of that crazy group! She loves hanging out with her family and friends! Music makes her happy. She’s a mix between country girl and city chic. She’s a sucker for a cowboy hat!

Lea Bronsen likes her reads fast, hot, and edgy, and strives to give her own stories the same intensity. After venturing into dirty inner-city crime drama with her debut novel Wild Hearted, she divides her writing time between psychological thriller, romantic suspense, and erotic contemporary romance.

From writing ‘every girl’s dream heroes’ to ‘strong, down-to-earth heroines,’ Cait Jarrod twists ‘cliff hanging plots’ and ‘clever, unpredictable sub-plots’. She loves diving into a good book as much as she loves writing one. Mother of three gorgeous daughters, she’s married to her best friend, hangs out with a great group of women—the WWC, and loves a good glass of wine.

DC Stone has over sixteen years of investigative experience, including working as a criminal investigator in the United States military and a private investigator. She has her Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and is dubbed, “The Investigative Whisperer.” Commonly called upon to act as an expert witness, she also trains with local, state, and federal law enforcement officers. She provides numerous workshops that help authors gain insight into “digging” into a character’s mind to better understand motives, create suspense, and help maintain conflict.
When she isn’t trying to solve a new puzzle in the world of fraud, she is engulfed with coffee, her laptop, and all those crazy characters in her head. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, Hudson Valley Romance Writers, Rom Vets, RWA Kiss of Death, and the Liberty State Fiction Writers. She served as the 2014 Vice President and Conference Chair for NJRW.

Excerpt from Lea Bronsen's story Live:

"Hey, watch out!" a male voice called.
Holy… She nearly jumped out of her skin. Pulse beating at a frantic pace, she ducked until the water covered her breasts…and slowly, methodically, scanned her surroundings.
There. On the other side of the pond, about three hundred feet from her bag, a shirtless guy wearing a cap sat on the shore with his back against a tree. Looking at her.
He had toned muscles and unusually dark skin for a blue-eyed man, making his clear gaze stand out like flashlights in his bearded face. An outdoors guy. Had he observed her the whole time?
"That place is dangerous!" He pointed a few feet ahead of her. "You don't wanna get your feet stuck."
"Oh, I know," she called back. He wasn't telling her anything new.
"Yeah?" His tone said he didn't believe her. Understandable, with her toe still dipped in the mud.
"Yeah." She pulled her toe out with a silent pop.
As if she needed to explain. "I used to live here."
"Uh-huh? What's your name?"
Damn, what a busybody. She frowned. What a weird conversation to have with a stranger. Her business was none of his. Shrugging him off, she spun in the water and swam toward her bag.
In the corner of her eye, the guy stood and walked along the shore, in the same direction as she swam.
Fuck. Her heart hammered in her chest. What were his intentions? Did he have the potential to hurt her?
Of course, he was faster. When he reached her bag, she was still fifty feet away.
She slowed, treading the water with her chin lifted. "What do you want?"
"Pretty girls shouldn't be alone in the woods."
Though her instincts warned to be careful, she swam closer and sent him a hard look. It would take more to frighten her. Living on the street, she'd seen it all. She sniggered. "If you're planning on hurting me, I've already been raped front, back, mouth, every orifice you can think of. I'm beyond caring." That should shut him up. Who would want to further damage a wreck?
Except she wasn't a wreck. The rape didn't break her, neither did the amount of chemicals she had absorbed over the years. Nothing could.
Her toes touched hard ground. She moved a little farther, arms flapping, until she could stand on her feet.
He stared at her, clear blue eyes beneath the gray cap scrutinizing and thoughtful. She'd seen eyes like that before, but couldn't place them. He sat next to her bag, his gaze sweeping the grass around him. "Where's your towel?"
She stepped forward until the water sank to chest level. "Don’t have one. Now, go away. Leave me alone." If he thought he was in for a nude show, he had to think again.
"What if I don't want to?" Brows lifted in nonchalance, he picked a grass straw and placed it between his white teeth, flashing them to her with a teasing grin. "This is my forest. You'll have to make me go away." He used good-natured humor, so he was a teaser, maybe not the kind of guy who'd hurt her.
"Oh, your forest?"
His smile widened.
She shook her head. "At least, look away." Covering her breasts with an arm and her pubic area with the free hand, she treaded toward the shore.
He did look away—into her duffel bag. "What's this?" Before she could react, his hand dove into the bag, rummaged inside, and brought out her colorful diary.
Oh, no. Her heart made a giant leap. He would discover the most intimate, sacred part of her.
She waded faster, water rushing like small torrents around her waist. Her breath picked up from the efforts.
Grinning again, he waved it in the air. "Bringing Christmas presents to the picnic, are we?"
Fuck him. "Don't touch that!" She stepped closer. The water reached her knees and splashed around.
"What is it?" He opened the first page, feigning deep concentration, then looked up. "What are these things? What're you keeping them for?"
"Stop! It's personal."
His brows lifted. "It is? How interesting." With a chuckle, he stood and took a few steps backward while demonstratively turning page after page.
What an asshole. She hated giving the impression she was desperate, but fuck if she'd allow a perfect stranger to read her diary. Still covering herself, she reached the shore and sprang out of the pond, water running down her naked body in rivulets.
He turned another page and squinted as if unable to see well.
Breathless, she hurried around her open bag and stopped in front of him. He seemed harmless, but she was so pissed and shocked, she could barely speak. "Give—it—to—me!"
He stood a head taller than her and twice her size in width. Limpid blue eyes gleamed beneath the cap. Chewing on his grass straw, he gave her a once-over and grinned. "You want it?"
"Y-yes." Cool water drops prickled from her hair and landed on her skin, sending a shiver up her spine. "F-fuck-h-ead."
Holding her gaze, he closed the notebook with a bang and held it out to her.
Oops. In her hurry, she'd forgotten one vital thing. How was she going to take the damn thing when she needed both hands to cover her body?
He smirked. "Problem?"
